What do you think a fashion week is?

Fashion Week is a biannual event, which happens during February and September to showcase the Spring-Summer and Autumn-Winter collections respectively by fashion designers, brands and fashion houses.

Fashion Week

As the name suggests, the event lasts for a week and concludes with a grand finale which consists of various other entertaining events. Traditionally, they are held several months in advance of the season to allow the press and buyers a chance to preview fashion designs for the following season.

In February and March, fashion designers showcase their autumn and winter collections. In September and October, designers showcase their spring and summer collections.

An event which earlier started as the Press Week (present Fashion Weeks) has now become every designer’s dream. With its ethereal charm, it continues to attract buyers, influencers and media.

New York Fashion Week (NYFW)

The A/W NYFW ’19 will be beginning on 8th February and ending on 16th February and the S/S NYFW ’19 will be beginning on 6th September and ending on 14th September. According to the recent updates, it is known that this time NYFW will reach out to the next level of creativity with the use of technology. From responsive garments to virtual reality, it will be a breathtaking show.  

The show sponsors include the NYFW’s long time partner Maybelline, Lexus, Etihad, Papyrus, and Visa among many others. Last S/S collection the Big Apples FW saw the return of top designers, such as Proenza Schouler and Rodarte.

Paris Fashion Week

The sartorial marathon otherwise known as the Paris FW wraps up oodles of fashion shows. Vanessa Williams’ “Save the best for last” aptly fits in, as Paris has never failed to what has been expected from it.

A/W Paris Fashion Show ’19 will be beginning on 27th February and ending on 7th March and the S/S ’19 will be beginning on 25th September and ending on 3rd October. Dior, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Gucci and Balmain will be among the most prominent brands to be showcased.

London Fashion Week

The much-awaited event, London FW will be divine with the presence of legends from Burberry to Vivienne Westwood.

A/W collection will be showcased from 16th to 20th February, 2019 and S/S collection will be showcased from 14th-18th September, 2019. The sponsors for the event are Tony & Guy, Etihad, Maybelline, Mercedes, Nivea and many more.

Milan Fashion Week

Milan, known for its elaborate productions, will immerse its audience in a virtual reality wonderland, transcending the Italian fashion capital.

A/W collection will be showcased from 21st to 27th February 2019 and S/S collection will be showcased from 19th-25th September 2019. This will witness eminent brands like Prada, Versace, Missoni, Marni, and Dolce & Gabbana among others.

For the Gucci’s absence in the last fashion weeks, Marco Bizzarri, the CEO (Gucci) has confirmed that Gucci will return in February 2019. The most unexpected addition to the schedule is sportswear giant, Filla.

See-Now-Buy-Now

The advent of see-now-buy-now, so called fast fashion, enables the retailers to copy designs from the runway and bring them to retail faster than the traditional design houses.

But, despite a growing number of designers experimenting with the calendar by producing ‘see-now-buy-now’ collections, still the majority of the fashion industry shows its pieces a season in advance, giving the impatient amongst us a sneak peek at upcoming sartorial highlights.

Fashion Weeks are not only a paradise for the top fashion designers but also for the buyers, influencers and the media. These events influence the upcoming trends. In India, we have the LAKMÉ FW which was created with the vision to “Redefine the future of fashion and integrate India into the global fashion world.”

Fashion Week

With its title partner Lakme, presenting partner Nexa and co-sponsors Etihad, Nokia, Tresemme and Tencel, it is India’s largest FW. Taking place biannually it gives a chance for the budding designers of India to showcase their talents.
