Born on the Fourth of July
Release date – 20 December 1989
Dir. By – Oliver Stone
Runtime – 2h 25m
IMDb – 7.2/10
Based on a bestselling 1976 autobiography of Ron Kovic-based on the aftermath of the Vietnam War on his life- this period drama was a pivotal success in contributing to the best Tom Cruise movies, making way for most of his 90s performances. The actor landed a well-deserving Academy Award nomination. He also bagged great honors at the Golden Globes awards.
In all the emotional explosiveness the movie set out, Tom as Kovic delivered a deep, impactful and near-perfect work. Born on the Fourth of July speaks to anyone whose protestant behavior is played with so much that it becomes far-away from being protestant.
All the Right Moves
Release date – 21 October 1983
Dir. By – Michael Chapman
Runtime – 1h 33m
IMDb – 5.9/10
The early days of the charm that would later lead to the superstar status for Tom Cruise is better portrayed in this coming of an age sports movie. A movie is less talked about as the time passed by, but Cruise’s grace remains unforgotten.
To thicken the weight, this Tom Cruise movie has a decent complicated relationship with a girlfriend, a tough but truthfully real relationship with the football coach and a perfect zest of a father-son relationship. A surprisingly happy twist at the end makes the whole stressed out, depressing plot complete.
Magnolia
Release date – 8 December 1999
Dir. by – Paul Thomas Anderson
Runtime – 3h 9m
IMDb – 8/10
With the existence of this subliminal masterpiece, the under-acknowledgment of beautifully characterized Tom Cruise movies has to be pointed out by someone at one point. This surreal storytelling not only landed Cruise his supporting actor Oscar nomination but also affixed his place into the hearts of cinephiles well.
As mesmerizing as the soundtrack makes this movie, the homely touch of reality makes it even better. Some may call it bizarre, but some call it totally away from bizarre, a thoughtfully spent astonishing 3 hours even.
Vanilla Sky
Release date –10 December 2001
Dir. By – Cameron Crowe
Runtime – 2h 17m
IMDb – 6.9/10
A personal favorite from amongst all the movies of Tom Cruise even after watching it twice you don’t understand how to, in a way, understand it. It is a remake film of the Spanish film called Abre Los Ojos. Vanilla Sky is a movie full of accidents. Literally, poetically. There are accidents inside accidents. Happy ones and unhappy ones.
Brilliant and under-appreciated imagery is all over the place in this Tom Cruise film. Right from driving to a full empty Times Square to driving off a bridge, it keeps your eyes and mind working hard to succeed. In all of its entirety, the “what is going ons” of the movie ensures a wild ride.
Far and Away
Release date – 22 May 1992
Dir. By – Ron Howard
Runtime – 2h 30m
IMDb – 6.6/10
The then couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman gave impressive performances in this 1992 period drama by Ron Howard. A classic down to earth love story that could, with only the first watch, easily touch the bottom of your heart.
Cruise and Kidman’s character leave away everything as if the whole world’s been waiting for them. The chemistry between then husband-wife comes out even better in the small moments than the deeper scenes in the movie. Easily could top the list of must-watch Tom Cruise movies list.
Losin’ It
Release date – 8 April 1983
Dir. By – Curtis Hanson
Runtime – 1h 40m
IMDb – 4.9/10
Three raunchy high school teenagers are in a hurry to “lose it” and set off to Tijuana in a classic 1960s style road trip. They take with them a junior and on the way pick up a going through it kinda exhausted wife from a road store.
This Rated-R piece amongst the movies of Tom Cruise has a pile of nudist scenes – which – can’t complain are the base for a horny teenager movie with no cheesy plot whatsoever. All in all, in search of the boys’ pleasure, an inflaming pleasure to the viewers ensues.
Rock of Ages
Release date – 15 June 2012
Dir. By – Adam Shankman
Runtime – 2h 16m
IMDb – 5.9/10
An 80s rock and roll movie? Starring Tom Cruise? Admit it; you would want to proudly bring it on just for the sake of experience. As much as the music is worshipped today, it’s obvious how the portrayal of those times makes it a ride down the memory lane for the ones who have been through them. If not, well, why wait to fall in love?
In terms of inclusion, Rock of Ages ticked every box it possibly could. To make up an overly vivid rock scene, there is nudity, abuse, head-banging, heartbreaks; all the rock ‘n’ roll. But this musical in all the Tom Cruise films gives the viewers a piece to remember with loosely eclectic cast enjoying what they do.
Cocktail
Release date – 29 July 1988
Dir. By – Roger Donaldson
Runtime – 1h 44m
IMDb – 5.9/10
In this early Tom Cruise movie, an ex-army man struggles to have worked in New York, ends up getting a bartending job while studying for a college degree. Expectedly and in a fantasy, he falls in love with a bartending contemporary while on a working sojourn to Jamaica. With his charismatic chemistry with senior worker cum bartending mentor, there begin issues.
There is a thick plot of romance diluting the actual content about bars and bartending in this cocktail. However, you sure will want to check it out for the early charisma of Tom Cruise. Add it to your Tom Cruise movies list right now for ranging your fan experience wider.
Minority Report
Release date – 2 August 2002
Dir. By – Steven Spielberg
Runtime – 2h 26m
IMDb – 7.6/10
In this future-oriented Tom Cruise movie, all are pre so as to defy the then common crimes such as murders in 2054 Washington, D.C. A system called “precrime” lets the law enforcing squad arrest eliminate and punish the guilty even before a crime is committed.
But, that’s not where the true punch comes from; one of the cops working for the system is himself accused of willing to commit a murder. Spielberg here takes the best out of his mind as well as Tom Cruise. In my opinion, it’s an entertainingly astonishing s well as unpredictable sci-fi that can definitely pull you in.
Valkyrie
Release date – 15 December 2008
Dir. By – Bryan Singer
Runtime – 2h 4m
IMDb – 7.1/10
Based on Nazi Germany during the Second World War, when the surrender had been left as the only way out, Singer helms a virtuous fact-based historical thriller. Extra-ordinary direction, screenplay, cinematography, editing, special effects and acting. The entire cast delivered superlative performances. In particular, Cruise’s portrayal of Stauffenberg is ingenious.
This Tom Cruise film is an action-packed both in the physical sense and psychological sense. The film examines the minds of the individuals involved in the assassination plot and also provides the back-story of the central characters. The plot is crisp, intelligent, captivating, fierce, cruel, clandestine and intense. This is mastered and sublime work of art. It remains one of the very best in its genre.
Knight and Day
Release date – 9 July 2010
Dir. By – James Mangold
Runtime – 1h 50m
IMDb – 6.3/10
Honestly, a perfect starter for experiencing the Tom Cruise saga, Knight and Day made a huge way for thriller-comedies. A ‘meet-cute’ at an airport turns Cruise and Diaz’s characters into a frenzy when they meet on again, off again until they no longer have to.
This, one of the more popular movies of Tom Cruise, can be titled a true entertainer solely on the basis of Cruise’s comic timing and an action-packed plot. The plot compliments the pairing of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and frankly, vice versa. A fun over the top mixture of cheese burst and tension
Days of Thunder
Release date – 27 June 1990
Dir. By – Tony Scott
Runtime – 1h 48m
IMDb – 6/10
A very entertaining film led by a very charismatic performance from Tom Cruise and strong supporting turns from Robert Duvall and Nicole Kidman. The racing scenes are somewhat fast-paced, succeed giving you an adrenaline rush, not just because of how well they are shot but because you care about the characters. There is depth to these characters and some light is shed on the dangers involved in car racing.
Even then, some racing scenes are so exciting that you can totally feel the gushes of wind and the clinks of the worn-out metal. One up if you’re a NASCAR fan because this is just what you want to survive. A thriller Tom Cruise film.
Mission: Impossible
Release date – 22 May 1996
Dir. By – Brian De Palma
Runtime – 1h 50m
IMDb – 7.1/10
The pioneer of the spy series, this Tom Cruise film was gripping enough to make way for the 6 to 7 – and counting – other movies of the series.
Based on the post-Cold war dealings, there are endless twists and turns that somehow tangle the plot. It’s a pity that the potent of this movie could not place the series at the pinnacle of James Bond-level success.
Mission: Impossible 2
Release date – 24 May 2000
Dir. By – John Woo
Runtime – 2h 3m
IMDb – 6.1/10
Again, to not adopt Ethan Hunt as the millennial 007 is a sin. An elite James Bond nonetheless. If the first movie was an entertaining classic, this Tom Cruise movie is a better, developed version of the same.
People and critics have polarising opinions on this movie and it depends on the audience’s mindset, viewpoints and circumstances. What works for you to watch it, it doesn’t have to for others. However, it’s the part of the Mission Impossible series and so there will be something.
Mission: Impossible III
Release date – 3 May 2006
Dir. By – J.J. Abrams
Runtime – 2h 6m
IMDb – 6.9/10
Mission Impossible III is comparatively better than the previous two movies. This movie is filled with amazing action sequences and stunts. The story is also pretty convincing and the villain is better too.
Cruise pretty much sacrificed an ordinary life so that people can be amazed by his increasingly charming persona. The man is pretty much Ethan Hunt himself.
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol
Release date – 16 December 2011
Dir. By – Brad Bird
Runtime – 2h 18m
IMDb – 7.4/10
The best thing about Mission Impossible series is that the makers of this series keep on improvising to make the final movie better and better from the previous installment and that’s what they did with their marvelous Ghost Protocol which without a doubt is the better one amongst the series.
The whole cast is amazing and is really convincing but Tom Cruise really deserves a special mention for his constant convincing efforts to make his movies more entertaining. The actions and stunts are mind-blowing and are a delight to watch. This one’s definitely a must-watch for the best Tom Cruise films.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation
Release date – 5 August 2015
Dir. By – Christopher McQuarrie
Runtime – 2h 11m
IMDb – 7.4/10
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation surprises everyone by how good a fifth movie can be. Tom Cruise is as usual terrifying. Rogue Nation has the best of all Mission Impossible action scenes and a clever plot which is worth a double watch for a lifetime.
Much has been made of the stunt work, especially which has been done by Tom Cruise himself. It did not disappoint. And the action and chase sequences are as exciting as anything you could imagine.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout
Release date – 12 July 2018
Dir. By – Christopher McQuarrie
Runtime – 2h 28m
IMDb – 7.8/10
The sixth movie in the MI franchise is undoubtedly the best among all the others. With Tom Cruise unleashed throughout the movie, he does some super insane stunts without anybody doubles or green screens. Halo Jump, Paris chase, Helicopter chase – and several other action scenes all are truly epic.
Add to that the adrenaline pumping MI theme music and you’re going to get very high. The supporting cast including Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson all gave great performances. Even though there’s not much on the story side, the action sequences alone hold up the latest Tom Cruise movie.
Jerry Maguire
Release date – 13 December 1996
Dir. By – Cameron Crowe
Runtime – 2h 19m
IMDb – 7.3/10
Jerry Maguire is essentially a romantic comedy but the love story between the characters of Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger isn’t even the best part. The beautifully characterized movie from the movies of Tom Cruise tells the story of the title character, a slick sports agent Jerry Maguire who pens a heartfelt company-wide memo that promptly gets him fired.
Adamant to stick with the players that he represents, Jerry starts his own management firm, with only single mother Dorothy joining him in his new profession. Working on their only client, football player Rod Tidwell; Jerry and Dorothy begin to fall in love as they struggle to make the business work.
Endless Love
Release date – 13 February 1981
Dir. By – Franco Zeffirelli
Runtime – 1h 56m
IMDb – 6.3/10
First love is always bitter-sweet. Based on a novel of the same name by Scott Spencer; Endless Love is powerful and a must watch Tom Cruise movie about young love.
Brooke perfectly adds charm to the character played by Martin Hewitt. The actors have portrayed love between two teenagers like a poem. The film debut of Tom Cruise, Endless Love was not much critically acclaimed but gave Cruise the sweetheart status instantly.
The Mummy
Release date – 22 May 2017
Dir. By – Alex Kurtzman
Runtime – 1h 51m
IMDb – 5.4/10
A strong and charismatic performance by Tom Cruise where his on-screen chemistry with Sofia Boutella’s Ahmanet was electrifying to the point of nearly erotic. A really good movie which paves a perfect path to the dark universe. You’d be surprised why there’s a lack of this genre in the Tom Cruise movies list.
Extremely underrated by the reviewers who get fixated on the original Mummy movie. This one tries something new and does a pretty good job at it. This film is a hot mess of everything and has some entertainment value if you’re not paying too close attention.
Eyes Wide Shut
Release date – 3 September 1999
Dir. By – Stanley Kubrick
Runtime – 2h 45m
IMDb – 7.4/10
The loved Tom Cruise film describes a nasty society in which all the people are involved in unhealthy sexual affairs. Some people are persuasive like shop manager and his daughter; other people are saviors like the ex-beauty queen. Persuasive people try to attract you for a dirty task (especially when they find out you have a weak point), but savior people try to save you when they find out you have weakness.
Nobody can keep the eyes shut. The film will force open them and even your mind. We are in a different era of law, sexual freedom and culture. To be sex wise or above sex is the moral of the film. Stanley knows well about cinematic aesthetic that sells on the base of human ecstasy.
Lions for Lambs
Release date – 8 November 2007
Dir. By – Robert Redford
Runtime – 1h 32m
IMDb – 6.2/10
Lions for Lambs, the preachy Tom Cruise film thrives to ask every question imaginable about the war on terrorism while offering not a hint of answers. The film is made to show the full connectedness of the “War on Terror:” the planning in Washington D.C., the fighting overseas, and the effects back at home.
It’s a true depiction of reality filled intense discussions, salute to Robert Redford for raising such a relevant issue, youth of nation is precious treasure who is supposed to ask questions to the government on all issues, but when it comes to Nation security it becomes more important that their thoughts must match with the feeling of patriotism.
Taps
Release date – 20 December 1981
Dir. By – Harold Becker
Runtime – 2h 6m
IMDb – 6.8/10
Taps is a film that when released in 1981 seemed to send off the flaky old fashioned George Patton era of the Military but the complex has only gotten larger and more streamlined since then. The old days of flag toting, trumpet blaring honor may have passed but soldiers today are like well oiled machines made on an assembly line.
The 80sness of this Tom Cruise movie takes you back to the time where things were such that anything was possible.
The Firm
Release date – 30 June 1993
Dir. By – Sydney Pollack
Runtime – 2h 34m
IMDb – 6.8/10
John Grisham’s best selling novel comes to the big screen with this less discussed movies of Tom Cruise called The Firm. Tom Cruise’s character Mitchell has just graduated in the top five of his class from Harvard Law School. With a record like his, there are obviously a lot of people interested in employing him. Offers arrive from the large, prestigious, and demanding, but eventually it’s a small firm from Memphis consisting of Bendini, Lambert and Locke that snares Mitch’s services.
At first, Mitch and his wife Abby eagerly celebrate their new and richer life, but it doesn’t take long for the euphoria to wear off. Two members of the Firm die under suspicious circumstances, and soon Mitch begins to wonder what secrets lay behind the locked doors of Bendini, Lambert, and Locke.
Oblivion
Release date – 12 April 2013
Dir. By – Joseph Kosinski
Runtime – 2h 4m
IMDb – 7/10
Oblivion, a modern Tom Cruise movie has a surprising, epic story, which pays due respect to some of the classic sci-fis of the past like Solaris and 2001 and in some ways it is highly reminiscent of The Planet of the Apes. If you just like gaping at special effects for a couple of hours, you will love this one. And, personally, any film with A Whiter Shade of Pale on the soundtrack is surely worth a view.
The audience experience events through the main character of Jack, played by Cruise. In some parts of Kubrik-esque, the story moves along slowly unraveling the puzzle and introducing the plot twist. On first viewing, a true science fiction tale simply told against a broad backdrop. Obviously a ‘must-watch’ for any Tom Cruise fan.
American Made
Release date – 25 August 2017
Dir. By – Doug Liman
Runtime – 1h 55m
IMDb – 7.1/10
Cruise proved once again that he is supreme when it comes to class acting. The way he delivers his performance of Barry Seal- in one of the best Tom Cruise movies nonetheless – an ex TWA airline pilot who went on to work for the CIA as well as South American drug cartel as a double agent, gives us an impression of how a Hollywood veteran executes his role.
As the movie is based on a true story, the way they have edited the movie is commendable. There are scenes mixed with excitement, humor, seriousness all blend together into a masterpiece. There is a recurring dialogue in the movie where Barry asks the viewers if America isn’t the greatest country in the world. American made makes you feel the answer is yes.
The Last Samurai
Release date – 22 November 2003
Dir. By – Edward Zwick
Runtime – 2h 40m
IMDb – 7.7/10
The story of The Last Samurai takes place during the early modernization of Japan, in the 1870s and 1880s. The Emperor’s power has been weakened by the political and economic power of his cabinet, by his youth, and by the political influence of the United States and other western powers.
Cruise plays Captain Nathan Algren, a cruel alcoholic veteran who is offered an opportunity to reclaim some of his honor by helping to train the Japanese military in the use of armory. It is true that this Tom Cruise film does glorify a lifestyle in an exaggerated and unfairly sublime way, but I think we’re missing the point. This film is romanticism vs. modernism. It’s purity vs. corruption. It’s the substance over form.
Interview With the Vampire
Release date – 9 November 1994
Dir. By – Neil Jordan
Runtime – 2h 3m
IMDb – 7.6/10
Interview with the Vampire is an American gothic horror romance movie based on Anne Rice’s 1976 novel of the same name starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in the lead roles. Enough said. A true Tom Cruise movie for the fans by the way. The film focuses on Lestat played by Cruise and Louis played by Pitt, showing Louis’ transformation into a vampire by Lestat in 1791.
The film covers their time together, and their turning of a ten-year-old Claudia played by Kirsten Dunst into a vampire. The narrative is framed by a present-day interview, in which Louis tells his vampire life story to a San Francisco reporter.
The Color of Money
Release date – 8 October 1986
Dir. By – Martin Scorsese
Runtime – 2h
IMDb – 7/10
I submit that this is one of Tom Cruise’s greatest roles. I can’t think of a better actor for the role of Vince. Who else can “flake on and flake off” like that, as Newman’s character “Fast” Eddie Felson put it? “You have to learn to be yourself, but on purpose.”
Cruise humming “Werewolves of London” has got to be one of the highlights of this Tom Cruise film. It is beautifully shot and edited with stunning cinematography and a colorful environment that makes it as impactful as anticipated. The Color of Money was a passionate project for Scorsese which is clearly visible and fortunately with a star cast like such, it comes alive on screen like never before.
Collateral
Release date – 6 August 2004
Dir. By – Michael Mann
Runtime – 2h
IMDb – 7/10
Collateral is a highly appreciable action thriller by Michael Mann. Tom Cruise is on the top of his game. While there is some inevitable character drama, there are also a few twists that are thrown in very well. Cinematography is excellent, particularly during the fight scenes.
Performance-wise, Tom Cruise is a true winner along with Jamie Foxx; both of them have managed to breathe life into their characters for this to add it to the best Tom Cruise movies. There are plenty of moments that make this film an unforgettable masterpiece. The ending is bound to make you feel cathartic.
Jack Reacher
Release date – 4 January 2013
Dir. By – Christopher McQuarrie
Runtime – 2h 10m
IMDb – 7/10
Jack Reacher’s an entertaining thriller however, centered around Cruise crucially. The man portrays Reacher perfectly, minus the physique. His stance at dedication and confidence is a serve.
However, the other hidden force behind this Tom Cruise’s best movie classic is Christopher McQuarrie, who adapted Lee Child’s book One-Shot and directed the film. It’s more of a decent action flick than a mystery thriller. You don’t have to try and figure anything out because they’re going to spoon-feed you all the answers/details.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
Release date – 19 October 2016
Dir. By – Edward Zwick
Runtime – 1h 58m
IMDb – 6.1/10
Edward Zwick’s sequel to Jack Reacher is an example of a true Tom Cruise movie spanking. Cruise’s character Reacher, a former military police officer who is now a drifter, single-handedly blows off the case of a trafficking ring, which brings him in contact with Army Major Susan Turner played by Cobie Smulders. Romance ensues.
There are several lights and funny moments between Jack, Susan and the kid Samantha that makes the whole action vibe chill down.
Rain Man
Release date – 12 December 1988
Dir. By – Berry Levinson
Runtime – 2h 20m
IMDb – 8/10
Autistic turned to artistic. Top-notch performance from Hoffman and maybe the best acting of Cruise’s career. This Tom Cruise movie hits you at all angles with the comedy aspect, dramatic turns and deeper insight on what it’s like to have autism in time it was unknown. It’s a necessity of the late 1980s.
The heads of autistics seem to be mended in a jammed way, as if their brains were divided into little boxes of little worlds made inside them. Raymond, Hoffman’s character has surreal talents; he’s a wizard – a sci-fi computer mutant – at some mathematical-memory functions. Hoffman gets to play it all: a disconnected child with inexplicable powers. Cruise is just the cherry on top.
A Few Good Men
Release date – 9 December 1992
Dir. By – Rob Reiner
Runtime – 2h 18m
IMDb – 7.7/10
A Few Good Men is one of the Tom Cruise movies brings out beautifully the inherent conflict in military service, about the extra obligations on military personnel, over and above the laid down orders and how our society places the law above other considerations.
Great theme beautifully picturized. Everyone should watch this movie for the sake of the depth of the dialogue “We were supposed to fight for the people who could not fight for themselves!” that Dawson, the character of Gene Whittington delivered with brilliance. Exquisitely, one of the best courtroom dramas you will ever watch.
Top Gun
Release date – 12 May 1986
Dir. By – Tony Scott
Runtime – 1h 50m
IMDb – 6.9/10
The plot of this peak status Tom Cruise movie was that a pilot called Pete Mitchell also known as “maverick” is sent to an awesome school of the top 1% pilots in America. Tom Cruise is absolutely breathtaking in every way.
The plane action sequences are thrilling and have you on the edge of your seat. The movie also had some deeply emotional moments which balanced out the fairly simple tone. Top Gun is truly entertaining throughout and if you didn’t like Tom Cruise before this, you’d definitely love him after. I highly recommend this to everyone for their best Tom Cruise movies list.
Legend
Release date – 28 August 1985
Dir. By – Ridley Scott
Runtime – 1h 34m
IMDb – 6.5/10
A perfect fantasy movie of all time to at least say the understated. It’s bashed unproductively for being weird but that’s the whole essence behind the true fantasy. Not a lot of people admire this Tom Cruise film but also not a lot of people are fantasy geeks.
A budding Tom Cruise is a savior and hero in this dark fantasy, menacing the devil-like character of Tim Curry. Despite receiving mixed reviews from film critics at launch, Legend was still nominated for numerous awards, including an Academy Award, along with three BAFTA Award nominations.
The Outsiders
Release date – 25 March 1983
Dir. By – Francis Ford Coppola
Runtime – 1h 31m
IMDb – 7.1/10
This Tom Cruise movie The Outsiders is based on the book written by S. E. Hinton. There is a constant rivalry between two gangs: the Greasers and the Socials, or Socs. The Greasers are the hoods; they are children who do not have parents, money, or both. The Socs are the rich kids.
The movie is great, a classic. It is action-packed, full of emotion, and is a great compliment to the book. The scenes are nicely portrayed, just like how the book is. Some scenes are missing, but the most important parts are there and they are good.
Risky Business
Release date – 5 August 1983
Dir. By – Paul Brickman
Runtime – 1h 39m
IMDb – 6.8/10
In this satirical Tom Cruise film, an upper-class suburban teenager gets involved with a prostitute while his parents are away on holiday, turning the family home into a brothel and grangerising his plans for the longer term. Coming-of-age comedy, starring Tom Cruise, Rebecca De Mornay, Bronson Pinchot and Joe Pantoliano.
Shortly, this sexual satirical comedy becomes a near-tragedy when he interacts with a killer-pimp, making it an eye-opening scene for him and his friends.
Edge of Tomorrow
Release date – 28 May 2014
Dir. By – Doug Liman
Runtime – 1h 53m
IMDb – 7.9/10
In this sci-fi thriller, there’s obviously Tom Cruise, and there’s Emily Blunt. It is everything that War of the Worlds couldn’t be. You really can’t get what’s coming next in this suspenseful masterpiece.
With the help of warrior Rita Vrataski played by Blunt, Major William Cage played by Cruise has to save Earth and the human race from an alien species, after being caught in a time loop. A classic addition to the list of best Tom Cruise movies.
Tropic Thunder
Release date – 11 August 2008
Dir. By – Ben Stiller
Runtime – 2h
IMDb – 7/10
There is much to like about this one of the comedic movies of Tom Cruise, and while not a laugh riot all the way through, there are many laughs out loud moments, and it is endlessly quotable. Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. are the better-appreciated leads. But, Cruise comes a close second as the nasty, over the top movie aficionado who can unleash a potty mouth saga that would make Gordon Ramsay blush.
There is one point in the movie where he, as an American actor is playing an Australian actor, playing an African American pretending to be Chinese. Watch it as the best Tom Cruise movies for the sake of humor.
War of the Worlds
Release date – 28 June 2005
Dir. By – Steven Spielberg
Runtime – 1h 58m
IMDb – 6.5/10
With a great cast and inventive direction, Spielberg captures the imagination with a dark menace often absent from his cinematic style, and yet the narrative keeps true to a simple formula, which in many aspects underpins its success and lasting appeal.
This underrated Tom Cruise film is a great one night stand of a movie. The flaming train presumably filled with passengers and on auto-pilot leave quite an impression. Otherwise, Cruise’s fighting with his kid during such a time is riveting and hardcore nudity.
